English is also widely spoken in big cities and for business relations.

Climate Throughout much of Russia there are only two distinct seasons – winter and summer; spring and autumn are usually brief periods of change between extremely low temperatures and extremely high temperatures. The coldest months are January & February, the warmest is usually July.

Moscow has a humid continental climate with warm, and sometimes hot, summers and long, cold winters. Typical high temperatures in the warm months of June, July and August are around a comfortable 23 °C . In the winter, temperatures normally drop to approximately −10 °C, though there can be periods of warmth with temperatures rising above 0 °C .

Saint-Petersburg has a temperate continental climate. Seasons are usually well defined, with July and August the hottest months (28-30° C) and December and January the coldest, when temperatures may fall to –20° C.

Electricity 220 Volts / 50 Hz AC throughout Russia. Most of the sockets are standard European style for double round-pin plugs, the same as in France or Germany. Appliances from the US, Canada, Britain will need adaptors (note - it is recommended to purchase adaptors prior to arrival, as it's very difficult to find them in Russia).

Health Advice A reciprocal health care agreement is in operation between the UK and Russia and first-aid and ambulance treatment will be provided free of charge for emergency cases. Visitors are, however, advised to have medical insurance cover. No specific vaccinations are required for travellers to Russia. It is recommended not to drink tap water.

Taxes In Russia all the taxes are already included in the price of the goods.

Banks Commercial banks are open 09:00-17:00 Monday to Friday. Some of them are also open on Saturday. ATM cash machines are widespread in big cities, almost all of which accept credit cards and generally are in operation 24 hours.

Shops Generally shops start to open between 9am & 10am and close around 8pm to 9pm. Some shops are open 24 hours. Shops in the shopping malls are open until 21:00 even on Saturdays and Sundays.
